Duties
Perform experiments in accordance with approved methods and procedures. Critically analyze results of experiments to determine whether data generated are accurate and valid.
Discuss scope and objectives of the research project with the research scientist. Recommend methods and assist the scientist in designing the experiment.
Advise the scientist of the methods to be used and estimate time and resources required with investigator.
Coordinate activities with the veterinary and animal care staff.
Collect, organize, and record experimental data in a form suitable for publication.
Review results of experiments for reliability and compare with data from similar experiments.
Maintain an awareness of current research and new methodological developments in the field.
Ensure that laboratory equipment is available when needed, is properly calibrated and in working order. Perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
In order to qualify at the GS-09 level, you must meet the following education requirements:
Have completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university;
OR
Have a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND I have appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.
In addition, in order to qualify at the GS-9 level, you must meet the following:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: performing experiments in accordance with approved methods and procedures; preparing detailed plans for experiments and procedures to be performed; analyzing experimental data and drawing tentative conclusions and using and maintaining a variety of laboratory instruments and ensuring laboratory equipment is calibrated and in working order;
OR
Have a combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position.
