About the position: This position will be assigned to the Indoor/Outdoor Recreation Swimming Pools located at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
The position is an Flexible position, which means you are not guaranteed hours, but could work anywhere from 0-40 hours per week depending on the needs of facility. Position requires working irregular schedules, to include weekends, holidays, and all shifts.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons.
Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area.
Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for
medical assistance if and when needed.
Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions,and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.
When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards.
Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool deck, sunbathing areas, etc.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- Must possess a current and valid nationally recognized certification covering lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills, and procedures.
- Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training.
- Must be able to complete a lift test (50 Punds or more) and a Physical.

Qualifying Experience:
For pool and aquatic center lifeguards: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Must be physically able to lift and carry objects weighing SO pounds or more. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Satisfactory completion of installation records checks, state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lifesaving duties for children. Successful completion and maintenance of a Tier I background investigation is required. Position of trust.

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
