The Pathways Internship Program allows students to join VA in career positions that emphasize long-term training and development. The incumbent of this position assists other employees at the Central Iowa VA Health Care System Finance Department In administrative and computer support. This developmental position involves work in a mix of functional areas to include administrative, operations, computer and systems support.

Duties

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Major Duties: Review undelivered orders and payables for a variety of reasons Has the ability to run and analyze a variety of reports used in daily and monthly reconciliations. Review and follow-up on open invoices in the Invoice Payment Processing System. Reconcile the Beneficiary Travel Database and the Agent Cashier Replenishment. Record payments from obligating documents in the Finance package to reflect accurate obligation balance. Contact services and the Financial Service Center regarding receiving report variances before processing the receiving reports. Research and provide the Travel Clerk with cost comparisons for the Finance Department in the Concur system, as well as set up employee profiles, travel plans, expense reports, and accounting strings. Review timecards and timecard corrections in the electronic time and attendance system for transmittal to Financial Service Center. Assist with Inventory of Fiscal Service equipment and reconciliation of the Equipment Inventory List for the Fixed Asset Records. Perform tasks of a routine clerical nature when appropriate in support of the Administrative Support Clerk and Supervisor Perform budgetary service line reports as instructed by the Budget Officer. Perform other duties as assigned related and in support of the Finance Department. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/19/2024. Internship Program: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled. You may qualify based on education and/or experience as described below: Education: Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or an associates degree. The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the filed in which the trainee will receive training on the job such as Financial Management, Accounting or Auditing. An academic year (1 year) of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours .~OR~ General Experience: One year of generalized experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. General experience is defined as: progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
