The primary purpose of this position, ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN GS-0802-11 is to provide engineering technical support for depot level maintenance, repair and modification for HQ AFSPC in support of the Rivet MILE Program and Minuteman Integrated Long Range Planning Program.

Duties

Function as the field engineering technician for the two depot Ievel maintenance teams working independently at remote missile sites and for on-base depot support area personnel. Solve problems beyond the scope of technical data for the Rivet MILE weapons systems and support equipment. Inspect and evaluate missile facilities. Interpret guideline materials. Utilize state of the art computer aided design applications.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support and the Individual Occupational Requirement for Engineering Technical Series 0802. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. BASIC REQUIREMENT: methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GS-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks), or will have one year within 120 days of closing of this announcement, of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes technical work in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes; and instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. Due to the use of 120 day rosters, applicants within 120 days of completion of TIG requirements are encouraged to apply. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of guidelines, precedents, and engineering principles and practices related to mechanical and electrical engineering, familiarity with other engineering disciplines and practices. Knowledge of engineering and construction standards, methods, practices and techniques, materials and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state and local codes and regulations. Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities and usage to effectively accomplish assigned functions. Knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and/or technical orders. Ability to analyze, interpret and apply rules. regulations and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. PHYSICAL DEMADS: The work is primarily sedentary, although there is some walking in offices, production areas, utility plants, maintenance, and work areas. Work may involve carrying lightweight items, such as briefcases, notebooks, test equipment, and work papers, or operating a motor vehicle. The work does not require any special physical effort or ability. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work area is usually an office setting adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions.
