Duties

This job opportunity is located in the Data Capture Branch, National Processing Center (NPC), Jeffersonville, Indiana. This position performs position provides administrative and technical leadership to other clerical personnel performing various current/Census related tasks. This position is included in the bargaining unit. The individual selected for this position will: Serve as a Lead in the Scanning Section with the responsibility of directing employees who perform various clerical duties. Interpret and apply instructions from a variety of census related subject matter including procedures and forms. Complete and assign work based on priority and selective consideration in order to maintain an even workflow through all phases of processing. Improve the quality of work processes through the identification and resolution of operational and procedural inconsistencies. Distribute and balance the workloads; keep in touch with the status and progress of work; estimate and report expected time of completion of the work; provide instructions to other employees; provide on-the-job training to new employees; and review work. Tour of Duty: Monday through Friday, hours between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Alternate Work Schedule is available. Alternate Work Schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off. Positions may include evening or weekend work, hours will vary.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You qualify at the grade 05 level if you possess one year of specialized experience that equips you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the grade 04 level to meet the qualification requirements in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as scanning various types of survey questionnaires and correspondence, etc. for distribution to various processing units and in some cases, directly to the customer; keying JARS and completing/acquiring various ad hoc reports; and in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Education Substitution: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college, university or business, secretarial, or technical school may be substituted for the required experience. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet qualifications. Selective Factor - Physical Demands: The work requires walking, reaching, bending, and stooping; lifting/pushing of material weighing up to 45 pounds; and extended periods of standing and operating mail processing and document prep equipment. You must meet all of the physical demands as listed to be considered for this position. Employees on a permanent appointment who were hired through a Recruiting Bulletin, who have not served in their current appointment for at least 90 days, are not eligible to apply.
