The primary purpose of this position is to enforce law, maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation.
Duties
Conduct law enforcement duties at interior and exterior gates, assures proper identification of all pedestrians or motor traffic, clears visitors, and maintains prescribed records.
Serve on permanent or rotating shifts at fixed access control points (ACP), or vehicle patrols assigned to a specific area, responsible to ensure security of access to installation, buildings, and areas within the installation, in order to protect critical property.
Assist with investigation of misdemeanor crimes such as recovered property, trespass, illegal dumping, shoplifting, abandoned vehicles, security violations and traffic violations.
Participate in regularly scheduled training in the techniques of first aid, sabotage, disorder, riot, disaster, and counter-terrorism.
Perform various administrative work such as writing reports and completing forms, records messages, attends briefings, prepares equipment
for duty, checks out motor vehicle and weapons, and ensure operator maintenance is performed for issued equipment prior to turn-in.

- This position has been identified as a designated position under the Drug Testing Plan. Incumbent of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test.
- May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall.
- Incumbent must be qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

- Incumbent must be able to operate all Security Forces Vehicles and installed equipment. An appropriate, a valid driver’s license is required for the position
- Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by functional; certificate from a Federally recognized Law Enforcement Academy is preferred
- Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties
- Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications required in CPR techniques, self aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the general and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Police Series 0083
EXPERIENCE
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 6 Months of general experience. Examples of General Experience includes experience in administrative, clerical, or technical work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 6 Months of Specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-03 (or equivalent in other pay systems) in the federal service in which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which includes knowledge of body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
OR
EDUCATION: Successful completion of Two years of study at an accredited school above the high school level with at least 12 semester hours in police administration, police law and evidence, police investigation, criminology, law enforcement, general law, or similar subjects closely related to police work; NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPT.
Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience or 6 months of general experience; NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPT.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. To combine education and experience, determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPT.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of police officer procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of police officer activities.
2. Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls and preventing unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced.
3. Knowledge of the rights of detained individuals and organizational rules regarding the appropriate use of force to be used in the apprehension of persons.
4. Skill in the practices, methods and techniques for functioning as a quick reaction force team member in support of integrated base defense and of the operation of specialized weapons, security systems, and equipment.
5. Skill in the tactics, techniques, and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, enemy attacks, and related threats to installations.
6. Skill in performing patrol duties, they serve as a deterrent to crime and other violations of laws, rules, and regulations.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques, and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations.
Ability to employ 'infantry/SWAT' small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver, with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions, while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time, (e.g. Employing "Active Shooter" response tactics and techniques as a member of a small team is required).
This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
This position may fall under the Standard Premium Pay Provisions under Title 5 USC.
The duties of this position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CAN NOT become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve").
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
