This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Dworshak Dam and Reservoir, Ahsahka, ID, a multi-purpose hydropower project, with missions that include operation and maintenance of the facility for flood control, hydroelectric power generation, recreation and natural resources management.

Duties

Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of physical plant facilities and of public use areas at a completed reservoir. Constructs wooden forms for concrete. Fabricates and designs tables, cabinets, small outside building structures, and does as-built drawings of the same. Makes plumbing maintenance repairs to water-borne toilets, drinking fountains, hydrants, showers, lavatories, laundry facilities, etc., which normally can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing and sealing defective parts. Performs labor tasks such as cleaning out underbrush; seeding and sodding; cleaning grounds; disposal of waste; mowing grass ; filling, leveling and paving holes in roadways. Required to be licensed for and operate a Class A motor boat under 40 feet on the reservoir to get to otherwise inaccessible areas.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class A USACE Boat Operator License within 12 months of appointment.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain valid state issued drivers license.
  • Pre-employment physical required.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE WORKER ~ without more than normal supervision. I have performed the majority of the following maintenance worker tasks under normal supervision: painting, carpentry, plumbing repairs, and welding. I am fully able to operate all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level tasks. I have experience operating backhoes and dump trucks. I have performed daily operation checks on this equipment. My resume reflects current or past experience performing these tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The WG-7 maintenance worker usually works outdoors but occasionally works at benches or while material is on supports. This requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. Also works from ladders and scaffolds that require overhead reaching. The work requires heavy lifting of materials, tools and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is normally performed outdoors with exposure to variations in weather and temperatures. The incumbent is exposed to injury from power tools and danger from flying splinters, airborne particles, cuts or scrapes from the use of hand tools or material handling. Is exposed to traffic hazards while driving on both improved and unimproved road surfaces. May work in cramped quarters and in or near water. May occasionally make repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present.
