Duties
As a Health Scientist, GS-12, you will:
Plan and conduct scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve public health problems.
Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on operations that are critical to the public health community at large.
Provide technical advice and assistance to national, state and local health agencies and to various other organizations.
Design, oversee, implement, and conduct major scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve public health problems.
As a Health Scientist, GS-13, you will:
Design, oversee, implement, and conduct major scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve public health problems.
Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on operations that are critical to the public health community at large.
Provide technical advice and assistance to national, state and local health agencies and to various other organizations.
Lead collaboration on programs/projects/studies and coordinates efforts, as appropriate, with other program staff, other CDC Centers, Institutes and Offices, other federal agencies, national, State and local health agencies, and private and non-profit organizations, etc.
As a Health Scientist, GS-14, you will:
Serve as a recognized expert in health sciences for the agency with responsibility for developing policy and objectives, appraising programs, and initiating requirements for health science studies.
Design, oversee, implement, and conduct scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve health system related problems.
Lead scientists and program consultants in various aspects of the study or survey design process, and other study support duties including analyzing and reporting of data and data dissemination to audiences.
Review literature to maintain current knowledge about measuring and evaluating public health capacity and performance at local, state, and national levels.

Basic Qualifications:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
In addition to Basic Qualifications above, Minimum Qualifications must be met:
For GS-12: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include experience in emergency response activities designing, overseeing, implementing, and conducting major scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve public health related problems at either federal, state, tribal, local, and/or territorial government organizations, such as health departments or similar non-governmental or private-sector organizations.
For GS-13: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include experience in emergency response activities identifying and analyzing public health issues and their impact on public policies or scientific studies or surveys at either federal, state, tribal, local, and/or territorial government organizations, such as health departments or similar non-governmental or private-sector organizations.
For GS-14: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include experience designing, overseeing, implementing, and conducting scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve health system related problems to monitor public health capacity and performance at either local, state and national levels.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
