This position is located in the Fitness Branch, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, within the Fleet and Family Readiness Division, Commander, Navy Region Hawaii. The Supervisory Recreation Assistant assists the Fitness Program Director in conducting fitness programs and activities and operating and maintaining facilities and equipment on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Duties

Major Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the overall maintenance and day to day operation of the Fitness Center. Duties include but are not limited to both indoor and outdoor assigned spaces, structural repairs, cleanliness and staff service level. Identifies hazards and minimizes 1isks by enforcing proper procedures and regulations to prevent injuries and promotes safety. Submits and tracks work orders for facility repairs. Ensures fitness staff and facility meet the highest level of service for our customers. Supervises Fitness Center Recreation Assistants (NF-2) and Custodial Workers (NA-2). Carries out supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Prepares work schedules for subordinates. Approves and disapproves leave request. Provides on the job instruction and work-related guidance to employees. Monitors behavior and fosters a positive work environment. Implements performance requirements, assigns duties and evaluates output of subordinates. Periodically counsels employees on performance requirements and recommends actions ranging from performance awards to separations. Ensures all staff are trained to respond to customer concerns and situations. Solves problems, provides guidance and serves as a liaison between the Fitness Team and Fitness Director. Oversees cash handling and responsible for activity change funds. Audits funds quarterly and submits cash counts to supervisor for review. Trains and tracks performance on computerized point of sales operating system. Works with business officer to resolve discrepancies. Serves as property custodian and is accountable for fitness center property and equipment. Maintains custody receipts, requests supplies and equipment, conducts inventories and submits equipment transfer and disposal forms as needed. Performs other duties as assigned and/or required.

Qualifications

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candidate possesses the following: A minimum of two years experience that demonstrates a working knowledge of the Fitness Program. A degree from and accredited college/university in a fitness related field may be substituted for two years experience. Certification CPR/ AED and 1st Aid. Must have a valid drivers license, be able to lift 45 lbs and be in good physical condition. Must possess a minimum of one year documented supervisory experience. Must possess a general knowledge of the operation of the facilities associated programs, which may include but is not limited to: Fitness, Sports, or Aquatics. Must possess demonstrated competency in common computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, serves and Internet functions, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Rec Trac and Powerpoint strongly preferred. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to create professional reports and presentations.
