The primary purpose of this position is: To provide telemetry operations support, maintenance support and technical support services in support of 83d Fighter Weapon Squadron (FWS) Weapon System Evaluation Programs.

Duties

Performs telemetry maintenance projects and performs troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, modifying, testing, calibrating, and installing equipment systems that are combined and interrelated with other devices, and are designed to collect, interpret, record, archive, and disseminate telemetry data from various sources. Configures equipment to supervise mission operations of interrelated components and systems to collect, interpret, record, archive, and disseminate telemetry data from various sources during real-time, air-to-air live-fire missions at any of two local or one of many deployed locations. Provides inputs to projects that establish future requirements to meet mission goals and new telemetry data collection acquisitions for new weapons systems. Uses and maintains a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as soldering devices, purging equipment, drills, and air compressors following established directives.

  • Basic knowledge of the Weapon System Evaluation Program, agency, command, installation, and industry electronics standards, policies, and procedures is highly desired.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • The employee must have the ability to gain and retain secret security clearance and access to special access programs.
  • The employee may have to travel as a passenger on military or civilian aircraft to accomplish duties at locations away from the normal duty station.
  • Recall to duty may be a requirement of this position and overtime and/or emergency overtime may be required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Electronics Technical Series 0856. https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/electronics-technical-series-0856/ Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include: practical knowledge of a wide range of telemetry and RF systems equipment, methods, principles, requirements, work techniques, and practices and skill in applying standardized, analytical, and evaluative methods and techniques sufficient to: Install, modify, test, repair, overhaul, calibrate, maintain, and report performance of integrated and interfacing electronic systems; Develop and recommend changes in procedures and technical instructions for generally well-precedent, factual, procedural, and/or recurring issues. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree in a field directly related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience as described above may be used to qualify for this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of specialized electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles and theories required to repair, maintain, and calibrate telemetry and RF equipment and systems that perform data collection, differentiation, integration, translation, and recording functions, testing and troubleshooting techniques and procedures and test equipment necessary to analyze, repair, and maintain electromechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic systems where the equipment is interrelated and performs multiple functions and/or where performance specifications are met only by making simultaneous adjustments and alignments to interrelated systems and devices. 2. Knowledge of safety and climbing regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Knowledge of operational and maintenance records, both manual and automated, and of the terminology and format to report work performed. Skill in interpreting complex drawings, sketches, wiring and schematic diagrams, manufacturers' plans, engineering blueprints, and similar technical information. 4.Skill in isolating malfunctions in complex components and devices or to align and calibrate special purpose test consoles that contain multifunctional items with critical mechanical and electronic tolerances and accuracies to include skill in interpreting complex drawings, sketches, wiring and schematic diagrams, manufacturing plans, engineering blueprints and similar technical information. 5. Skill to include modify and improve methods of testing and overhauling new instruments and devices that may require adapting tools and test equipment to special uses such as extending the range or sensitivity of diagnostic equipment, or fabricating tools and/or nonstandard components to accommodate particular needs, or to perform standard operations more efficiently. 6. Ability to adapt standard procedures, equipment or techniques, and make departures from previous approaches to solve technical problems or improve system performance for complex electronic system. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
