About the Position: This is an Ordnance and Explosive (OE) Safety Specialist position GS 12, position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division (NWD), Omaha District, with responsibility for performing project oriented and technical support (point-of-contact) duties associated with OE matters. Ensuring the safe execution of Ordnance and Explosive projects by developing and implementing OE safety programs.

Duties

As an Ordnance and Explosive (OE) Safety Specialist, you will: Provide oversight of Ordnance and Explosive investigation activities to include site evaluations, site inspections, engineering evaluation/cost analyses, Remedial Investigation Feasibility Studies (RI/FS) and removal designs. Provide technical information relating to the safety of personnel when performing field investigations of known or suspected explosive ordnance contaminated areas to ensure safe operations during all field activities. Perform quality assurance for cleanup activities at ordnance contaminated sites. Participates in the development and review of Statement Of Work(s), Government cost estimates, and the verification of the contractor's Unexploded Ordnance Personnel qualifications.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and a bi-annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a state issued driver’s license.
  • Incumbent is required to be a graduate of the US Naval Explosive Ordnance School in accordance with ER 385-1-95. (Must Upload Copy of Completion)
  • Incumbent must successfully complete the OSHA mandated 40-hour course for "Hazardous Waste Site" training (HAZWOPER).
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time.
