About the Position: Provide a variety of cooking and food service support; to facilitate the preparation of foods within a medical treatment facility. Assist higher graded cooks in preparing regular menu items and special diet requests. Cook raw foods, grills and prepares fresh fruits and vegetables according to safety guidelines, rules and regulations. Operations run 7 days a week. Rotating shifts 0500-1300 and 1000 to 1830

Duties

Follow procedures to operate and clean equipment. Provide support to a to a medical treatment facility by preparing, cooking, and serving food. Operate cooking equipment and utensils by using multiple heating sources. Assist in the preparation and serving of large quantities or individual portions of regular, modified, and special diet menu items served meals. Prepare and cook moderately difficult foods from recipes or other instructions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Employees must obtain and maintain a favorable result from a criminal history background check (NACI).
  • Incumbent is subject to shift assignments.
  • Employee is required to wear protective shoes.
  • This position requires moderate to heavy lifting up to 40lbs unassisted, occasionally heavier items with assistance.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

The work also involves frequent lifting of heavy objects weighing up to forty pounds; occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance from others. WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to extreme temperature changes occurs when entering and exiting refrigeration/freezing units. Injuries such as cuts, bruises, or burns may result from slips on wet floors, touching hot pans, stoves, steamers, ovens, etc., using sharp edged cutting utensils and blades or spills of hot foods, grease or water. The employee is required to wear safety shoes and follow prescribed safety procedures.
