Assigned to the Veterans Service Center, the incumbent performs a broad range of administrative activities in support of a business unit that administers health and related benefits within an integrated system of VA health care resources and health care access points.
Duties
Duties:
Advised applicants of the health care benefits they are legally entitled to, both in person and over the phone.
Initiates administrative processes for establishing care and notifies appropriate healthcare personnel.
Responds to technical questions regarding patients' administrative rights and situational eligibility for healthcare and provides patients with administrative advice and guidance.
Provides Veterans both verbal and written information regarding non-medical benefits and refers Veterans to area VBA Benefits Counselors for claims.
Researches and responds to complex questions involving regulations and/or beneficiary entitlements and communicates results to patients, families, employees, and Veterans' Organizations.
Receives, reviews, and processes new and recurring paper, in person, and electronic applications for Medical, Dental, Behavioral Health, Geriatrics and Extended Care, Diagnostic and Therapeutics, Outpatient, Inpatient, and Long Term Care Services, independently applying the appropriate unique regulatory authority to each program.
Manages personal funds of patients on deposit at a VA Medical Center.
Performs all administrative functions related to Decedent Affairs of death cases occurring within the Medical Center.
Independently processes Beneficiary Travel claims for Veterans, in accordance with VA regulatory guidance.
Manages Hoptel services for the facility, ensuring reservations are appropriate and adhere to VA regulatory requirements for Hoptel services.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Providing Veterans both verbal and written information regarding non-medical benefits and refers Veterans to area VBA Benefits Counselors for claims; Responding to technical questions regarding patients' administrative rights and situational eligibility for healthcare and provides patients with administrative advice and guidance; Advising applicants of the health care benefits they are legally entitled to, both in person and over the phone.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work involves mostly administrative processing which requires standing, walking, sitting, stooping, bending, lifting light objects, answering telephone and entering data.
