Duties

Develop and administer an installation-wide ASAP Prevention plan for a military community that includes an education program with goals, objectives, lesson plans, marketing, and budgetary needs. Serve as a Risk Reduction Program (RRP) manager administering and evaluating data gathered from Unit Risk Inventories (URIs). Serve as Suicide Prevention Program proponent and local subject matter expert on Army policy and procedures related to suicide prevention. Develop, coordinate, and facilitate a training program for unit prevention leader (UPL) course and provide on-going technical guidance on ASAP areas of instruction. Develop and recommend short-term and long-term prevention strategies and action during command consultations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires 5% travel (TDY).
  • This position requires a one-year probationary period.
  • Incumbent must gain certified prevention professional status through ACSAP within 3 years of assuming their duties. Failure to obtain certification within 3 years or failure to maintain certification may result in administrative actions and removal.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Developing an Army Substance Abuse Program prevention plan and education program for military and civilian employees; 2) Experience as a Risk Reduction Program coordinator administering Unit Risk Inventories and analyzing data to formulate recommendations to military commanders; 3) Managing a Suicide Prevention Program to ensure that suicide prevention activities are carried out in accordance with applicable guidance; 4) Facilitating substance abuse education and awareness training that addresses issues such as: Addiction concepts, life styles leading to chemical dependency, interventions and resources including treatment; 5) Developing policies, procedures, and directives for Prevention Control, Risk Reduction, and Suicide Prevention programs; and 6) Coordination of services for Unit Prevention Leaders and the ASAP's Drug Testing Program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: PhD. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
