This position is located in the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), Office of the Director, Office of Scientific Program & Policy Analysis. This Health Science Policy Analyst position is a senior health science policy analyst responsible for leading and conducting analyses and monitoring developments in areas of science as they affect NIDDK programs and furnishing technical guidance and assistance regarding science policy issues to institute senior staff.

Duties

Identifies, characterizes, and documents scientific opportunities and needs, research initiatives, science advances, and accomplishments relating to the programs of the institutes four scientific operating divisions. Develops procedures for systematic program or policy development and review, involving refinement of program or policy objectives and compilation of data and performance indicators regarding the direction of research conducted through the NIDDK. Spearheads the production of the institute's major scientific planning documents, as well as other documents of a planning nature for NIH, PHS, and DHHS for which the NIDDK bears leadership responsibility. Provided leadership and guidance to staff on work and information associated with programs, scientific accomplishments, research initiatives, and scientific policy issues related to the NIDDK. Provides assistance and information to government agencies and non-government individuals and organizations on policy issues, and advises senior institute officials on matters of policy analysis. Conducts in-depth analyses of significant issues or subject matter areas to guide NIDDK presentations and responses to public policy makers regarding mission-related research and research training.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-14 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements: In order to qualify for a Health Science Policy Analyst, GS-0601, position you must have successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Leading and conducting analyses and monitoring developments in areas of science; Representing an organization at meetings; Primary coordination and/or writing or summarizing of documents, meetings and activities related to scientific research planning; And identifying trends and emerging problems in diabetes, digestive, and kidney disease-related areas resulting in research policy changes.
