This position is located in the Resource Stewardship Division of Gateway National Recreation Area (GATE), Staten Island, NY. The purpose of the position is the development, oversight and implementation of the park's natural resources stewardship programs.
Duties
Exercise full range of technical and administrative supervisory responsibilities for professional and technical natural resource staff.
Manages diverse and complex programs to achieve effective stewardship of natural resources within an urban National Park.
Conducts, coordinates and manages the preparation and review of park plans and projects to ensure protection of natural resources and compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and policies.
Compiles, updates, maintains and completes natural resource inventories, reports, research, and data to inform the preservation, restoration, management, and interpretation of natural resources in an urban National Park.
Develops and manages natural resource program funding and budgets according to policy and regulation.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
All applicants must meet the basic education requirements for at least one of the series listed below:
Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences, 0401 series
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
or
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Ecology, 0408 series
Degree: biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.
Physical Scientist 1301 series
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
or
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic education requirements for at least one of the series listed above, all applicants must meet the minimum qualifications below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include: developing and implementing natural resource management plans; evaluating project plans in order to recommend methods to eliminate, reduce and/or mitigate their impact on natural resources; developing and conducting scientifically sound research and monitoring; preparing natural resource briefs, memos, white papers, protocols, and peer-reviewed publications; managing natural resource data; and maintaining partnerships with external stakeholders to advocate for stewardship of natural resources. ** you must demonstrate at least 4 of the above examples in your resume**
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
