The position is a temporary not to exceed 1039 hours. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is May-November but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated entry-on-duty: May 2023.

Duties

Designated as unit of the National Park System in 1972, Gateway National Recreation Area encompasses approximately 26,000 acres of land and water, including bay and ocean shoreline in three units, located in two states and 6 Congressional districts. With a remarkable concentration of cultural, natural, and recreational treasures in an urban setting, the park provides a wide array of recreational and educational activities for the metropolitan population, as well as large numbers of national and international visitors. The park includes a large number of complex former military fortifications and facilities in two states, adding to both its diversification and management complexity. More than 20 million people reside within a one-hour drive of the park. Annual Park visitation averages 9.5 million people. Recreational use of park lands, waters, and facilities is intense. The park is recognized as one of the most complex urban parks in the world. The lands making up the recreation area were assembled from a variety of ownership - military, other federal, state, county, city and private. MAJOR DUTIES: Perform masonry work such as construct, alter, modify or repair structures such pillars, mortar posts, framework, rafters, joists, insulation, sheet rock, paneling, doors, windows, flooring, and roofing. Perform work on historic and non-historic structures. Experience working with historic mortar joints and ability to match texture, appearance and finish of historic 1/8" joints. Use full range of power and hand tools. Plan, compute, and lay out projects and identify material needs. Produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, and acceptable appearance. Paint, decorate, and refinish a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and other facilities. Maintain, construct, repair, and alter a variety of masonry structures. Operate a variety of maintenance vehicles. Must be able to work without more than minimal supervision. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
