About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Medicine at 60th Medical Group, Travis AFB, California.
Duties
Install, maintain, overhaul, troubleshoot, repair, modify, test, and calibrate such items and equipment that perform differentiation, integration and data translation functions.
Analyze system operation, record readings and observations and ensure compliance with standards.
Establish and maintain preventive maintenance and calibration schedules to ensure compliance with requirements established by manufactures and other applicable technical and safety directives.
Maintain and calibrate cooling, heating, ventilation equipment and pneumatic controls by checking, testing repairing, adjusting or replacing defective parts or units.
Perform maintenance on oil-free air compressor systems that require periodic valve and ring changes plus other scheduled maintenance to ensure the proper operation of the entire system.
Maintain spare parts inventory, preventive maintenance records, work orders, purchase requests and calibration information utilizing the Access Maintenance Data Base.
Use tools and equipment such as digital multi-meters, mille-amp signal simulator and other type test equipment and instruments to assure proper function of equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.

- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Instrument Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Repair, maintain, calibrate, and install instrument devices or equipment to make the hyperbaric chamber system operational. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: The worker is subject to make repairs that often require them to work in sitting positions for extended periods of time. Some work requires long periods of standing, walking, bending, and reaching. They frequently lift, handle, and carry items and equipment that weigh up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). They are sometimes required to lift and move items weighing in excess of 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
Working Conditions: Work in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. May be required to work in clean room conditions where special garments including head coverings, shoe coverings, and gloves are required. Also, may be required to use protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses and shoes, face shields, ear plugs, and respirators. The work involves the use of cleaning solvents and lubricants that may expose workers to unpleasant fumes. The worker is exposed to the possibility of electrical shock; burns from hot solder, soldering irons, and electrical sparks; and cuts, bruises, and abrasions from operating power tools and equipment.
