The Wellness Health and Outcomes (WHO) Associate Chief Nurse has oversight of programs impacting employee and patient wellness and quality outcomes, as well as evidence-based practice and shared governance a at Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS). The Associate Chief Nurse has consultative oversight for the clinical and administrative management of nursing quality within the assigned units/areas of responsibility at Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS).

Duties

Duties/Responsibilities include but are limited to: Representation at Healthcare System and service committees as well as program planning, quality improvement activities, analyzing data and writing formal reports as needed for the service, facility and VISN level. Is a subject matter expert on the implementation of evidence-based quality improvement strategies, system redesign, and innovation. Provides global non-biased recommendations for process changes supported by data with a focus on quality improvement. Maintains an expert knowledge base on (but not limited to) SAIL Performance Improvement, EPRP, IPEC, Veteran Affairs Surgical Quality Improvement Program (VASQIP) Performance Improvement, Nurse Sensitive Indicators, Data Analytics, High Reliability Organization strategies, and other nurse-driven quality measures for trends and early intervention. Provides leadership and direct/indirect supervision over integrated programs impacting employee and Veteran Wellness and clinical outcomes. Supervises the Nurse Excellence Coordinator and program which supports Nursing Shared Governance and helps guide promotion of the nursing profession through unit-based targeted improvement projects. Responsible for addressing annual patient care services All Employee Survey areas of improvement and plays a significant role in the recruitment and retention of nursing staff. Master's degree in nursing and four years of professional nursing experience, one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse III and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse IV. OR Master's degree in a related field and a bachelor level degree in nursing and four years of professional nursing experience, one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse III and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse IV.OR Doctorate in Nursing and three years of professional nursing experience, one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse III and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse IV. OR Doctorate degree in a related field and a master or bachelor level degree in nursing and three years of professional nursing experience, one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse III and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse IV. GRADE REQUIREMENTS. In addition to the basic qualification requirements, the grade level of Nurse (any assignment) is based on a combination of education and experience. Preferred Experience: Progressive leadership experience at a with programatic responsibility at a facility-wide level impacting multiple services. Experience with implementation of evidence-based change as well as experience with data analysis of quality driven metrics. Physical Requirements: This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, and sitting. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. In the performance of duties, the incumbent may be required to drive and/or ride in GSA-vehicles.
