The employee serves as Motor Vehicle Operator within the Facilities Management Service at the Orlando VA Medical Center/Lake Nona Facilities and all outlying clinics. Employee is responsible to the WS-4701-07 Maintenance & Operations Supervisor. In order for the Orlando VA to provide excellent health care that improves Veterans health and well-being, VA employees may be required to work irregular tours of duty, including evenings and weekends in order to conduct the VA's mission.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Drive extra-long and high 36 passenger bus/15 passenger van patient transport vehicles (typically 12,000 to 21,599 lb average weight). Must be skilled in handling the controls, starting, stopping, backing, braking, following distance, driving and maneuvering all assigned vehicles, taking into consideration the extra length, height and weight of the vehicle and contents. Perform all preventative maintenance tasks, such as checking all fluid levels, lights, wipers, tires, batteries, tools and be able to make minor emergency repairs as needed. Abide by all establishment, city, county, state and federal laws and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles. Maneuver vehicles over improved/unimproved and even/uneven roads throughout their trip, adhering to all speed limits and using side mirrors and spotters in difficult areas such as receiving docks and hospital loading/unloading zones. Assist patients in/out of the vehicle when needed, involving physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending. Work Schedule: Tues-Sat, Sun-Thurs- 4:00 am - 12:30 pm, 5:00 am - 1:30 pm, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, 7:00am - 3:30 pm, 7:30 am -4:00 pm, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm, 11:30 am - 8:00 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Motor Vehicle Operator/PD06230A Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized ***Must possess and carry a a valid Class B license with passenger and air brakes endorsement.***

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/16/2024. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Employee must frequently handle objects weighing up to 40 lbs and occasionally more,with assistance, endure prolonged periods of driving, and perform minor emergency repairs such as tire changing, during their duties. Working Conditions: Employee is required to work away from their home clinic in all types of weather and traffic, conditions while performing their duties. He/she is exposed to danger of serious accidents and operates the vehicles in congested traffic conditions on regular and interstate highways at slow and fast speeds. These roads also include complicated interchange systems. Must deal and Interact with patients with a variety of physical and mental disabilities. Employee is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, strains, etc., when loading/unloading cargo. Employee consents to full time, Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-3:30pm, ****May include holidays and weekends and may be subject to rotating shifts in accordance to contractual rules****. This position is subject to overtime work.
