The primary purpose of this position, SUPERVISORY FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR, GS-0081-11 is to serve as Assistant Chief for Fire Prevention planning, directing, and coordinating all activities of the technical services program including a comprehensive inspection program to detect and eliminate hazards in a high fire expectancy area.
Duties
-Participate in the administration and planning of a comprehensive fire prevention program at the installation.
-Plan, administer, and supervise the fire prevention education program.
-Review construction and modification plans, confer with engineers, and provide technical/functional assistance on fire prevention and building design criteria.
-Perform supervisory personnel management responsibilities.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0081, Fire Protection and Prevention Series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year, or will have one year within 120 days of closing of this announcement, specialized experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-10) level or equivalent (grade level, pay schedule, pay band, etc.) and is described in detail in their resume. An example of creditable specialized experience includes: 1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-10 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. Due to the use of 120 day rosters, applicants within 120 days of completion of TIG requirements are encouraged to apply.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of recognized standards covering fire protection and prevention techniques and procedures; agency and installation manuals, rules, and regulations; and federal, state, and local fire protection/prevention ordinances and building codes.
2. Knowledge of the theory of fire propagation and progression and the application of accepted techniques and principles to reduce or eliminate hazards in a specialized environment with a high fire expectancy and potential for severity.
3. Knowledge of the layout, design, construction, and contents of buildings; location of fire protection systems; and other similar characteristics of a typical DOD installation.
4. Ability to interpret facts, analyze, evaluate, and make sound decisions.
5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct functions and to mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
*This position has been designated as Key. In the event of a crisis, selectee must perform the Key duties until relieved. This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. Requires the incumbent be removed from military recall status.
*The incumbent of this position must be certified by the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Fire Fighter Certification system as Fire Officer III (includes Fire Officer I, II), Fire Instructor II (includes Fire Instructor I), Fire Inspector III (includes Fire Inspector I, II), HAZMAT Incident Commander and Airport Firefighter. Please provide copies of your IFSAC and/or Pro Board certifications.
