This position is located in Pacific Northwest Region. Region 6. This position is located on a Forest Service unit where the incumbent performs a variety of public affairs activities.
Duties
Responds, in oral and written form, to requests for information by determining the nature of the data required and collecting and assembling the material using the appropriate format and style based on needs and organization practices.
Assists in evaluation and analysis of public comments on Forest Service management issues.
Identifies areas to be addressed, characteristics and needs of the target audience, and communication techniques most appropriate; develops recommended approaches and drafts material for supervisor's approval.
Develops and presents informational audio-visual programs including slide-tape and video tape programs.
Requirements

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-09: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: experience providing information to the general public representatives of the news media, government agencies, elected officials, industry groups, and community groups on agency programs and activities; and/or Evaluating and analyzing of public comments on agency issues; and/or preparing and presenting speeches for special interest groups, school and church groups, and the general public.
OR Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. OR two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree orLL. B or J.D., if related; Courses must be in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, English, or a related field of study.
OR An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hour may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
