This position is located in the Environmental Management Services at VA Phoenix Health Care System - Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to mend and maintain textile products and employee uniforms; perform basic operator maintenance to sewing equipment; and provide customer service with inventory management of these products.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Inspecting worn, damaged, or stained linen and uniform items to determine if they can be economically repaired and made serviceable
Operating, stocking, and restocking of the Autovalet Dispensing System
Collecting items, determining to be beyond economical repair, salvaging such items, keeping quantity records of all salvage by type of piece and date
Accomplishing minor alterations to Government uniforms such as lengthening or shortening dresses, coats, etc., to enhance serviceability
Maintaining inventory of Sewing Room and thermo-patch supplies and requesting supervisor to order additional stock items
Issuing and maintaining receipt signatures for uniforms issued to employees of all services
Exchanging clean uniforms for soiled uniforms on a one-for-one basis
Understanding Green Environmental Management System (GEMS)
Performing other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 07:00 a.m. to 03:30 p.m.

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Light physical effort is required to perform recurring duties. The incumbent is required to continually sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and carry in order to satisfactorily accomplish his/her duties. The incumbent works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area and is subject to eyestrain and from close-up work.
