About the Position: The Target Devices Repairer Supervisor position is located with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobility, & Security Training Division, at Fort Riley, KS.

Duties

Enforces local policies and procedures and prepares standard operating procedures for all firing ranges. Manages, plans and assigns reoccurring regular maintenance tasks on all small arms ranges to ensure proper upkeep of equipment. Determines equipment, supplies, and maintenance required to complete assignments and investigates any suspected erroneous usage. Serves as the technical expert and administrative supervisor over Heavy/Light/Aviation/Small Arms Live Fire Ranges exercising full supervisory responsibility over an extensive network of operating systems for daily work operations. Constantly reviews and evaluates work processes, identifies any areas of improvement and provides improvement plans. Based on knowledge of safety and occupational health regulations, standards and procedures, ensures safe operation of remote-controlled automated ranges.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Employee is required to wear a one-half face fitted respirator if needed and to be clean­ shaven daily to prevent interference with the wearing of the respirator.
  • This position requires a drug test.
  • Employee will be required to receive a respiratory test once a year and a one-half face respirator fit/test each year.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
  • Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.

I have the ability to perform common Target Devices Repairer Supervisor duties such as supervising the maintenance of range equipment such as audio and video capture and playback equipment, heavy equipment, and facilities maintenance. I can conduct range operations such as operate range systems, post bulletins of live fire range operations, and follow work schedules and assignments given. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility for this position, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Items weighing in excess of 70 pounds normally involve more than one person. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, and standing, working in cramped positions and climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs to reach a 30-foot control tower. Requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over rough and uneven terrain. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside during all types of weather conditions. Stands on concrete floors and works on ranges in rough terrain. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. Responsible for the handling of batteries used in operating remotely controlled target devices. Incumbent is s exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, electrical shock, falls from a 30-foot tower, and explosions. Hearing protective devices, hard hats with face shield and other safety equipment and devices are issued or available for use. However, environmental differential pay is authorized when the incumbent is required to load or unload Hoffman charges.
