Qualifications
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as performing environmental field radiation assessments to set exposure limits; assisting in evaluating and assessing sites contaminated with radioactive material; and develop radiation response training for internal and/or external stakeholders.
To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as performing environmental field radiation assessments to set exposure limits; evaluating and assessing sites contaminated with radioactive material; and developing radiation response training for internal and external stakeholders.
Your application package will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of radioactive materials and/or radiation sources; 2) Skill in written communications; 3) Ability to identify and control contaminants from naturally occurring and man made radioactive materials; 4) Ability to develop and deliver training; 5) Skill in oral communication; 6) Skill in performing radiological risk assessments; 7) Skill in evaluating radiological data.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.
Physical Scientists:
A bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Health Physicists:
You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus; OR a combination of education and experience which included courses in the fields included in the described course work; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education comparable to the described coursework.
