This position is part of the Office of Public Affairs, Department of Energy. As a Digital Communications Specialist, you will communicates the Department's message, policies, initiatives and information to the news media and general public online; managing and coordinating digital communications activities for Headquarters, field offices and sites, and DOE laboratories; serving as primary spokespeople for DOE online, pertaining to DOE activities.

  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • This is NOT a remote position. The incumbent will be required to report to the office a certain number of days per pay period.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-11: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of 3 of the following: Overseeing the websites and social media accounts of an organization. Creating or selecting original online material and programming that supports the initiatives or an organization. Disseminating information, policies, and messages from an organization to the news media and the public online. OR Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or at least 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. if related. OR Possess a combination of education and experience that together meets the requirements for this position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-12: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting all of the following: Utilizing multimedia programs to prepare content for publication on the web using a content management system (CMS). Utilizing an online analytics program like Sprout Social, Google Analytics, and others to monitors and evaluates analytics for an organization's social media, podcasts, videos, and other material to evaluate content performance and adjust the organization's digital strategy. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration. CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must (1) meet all of the requirements as described in this section; and 2) be rated "well-qualified", which is defined as having a score of 85 or better. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
