This position functions as a Security Clerk assigned to the Police Service at the James A. Haley (Tampa) Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC). Performs standardized aspects of the establishes facility security program operations such as establishing and maintaining security records and operating an established pass an identification system. Maintains statistical data relating to various purposes for vehicle access.

Duties

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Establishing and maintaining security records and operating an established pass and identification system. Maintains statistical data relating to various purposes for vehicle access. Checks identification for VA employees and verifies personal identification against authorization documents, issue badges, passes, vehicle permits, to authorize access. Provides information to employees and the public concerning ticketing information and furnishes traffic directions. Establishes proper tracking of parking/traffic violators. Establishes and maintains physical files of parking/traffic violators. Records vehicle identification information such as make, model, color and tag number of vehicles that are questionable as to their true intent for gaining access to park and notifies the police dispatcher for follow-up inquiries. Maintains a physical presence in and at the "gate control office" at the entrance into the parking lot or area, monitors vehicles desiring access into the lot or area, ensuring that only persons that are authorized gain access. Monitors and operates parking related equipment that allows access and tracks occupancy / available parking spaces. Coordinates special parking needs as they are approved and if necessary, blocks off such spaces. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:30am to 2:00pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/16/2024. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: You must have one year of General experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, express information to multiple audiences through clear, convincing oral and written communications; gather, organize, and maintain information; utilize several types of office automation software programs to enter and verify information. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable and obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR, Combination of Education and Experience: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this grade level as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Note: One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:CommunicationsIdentity ManagementOrganizational AwarenessSelf-ManagementStress ToleranceExperience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary in nature with requirements to stand or walk in barrier free conditions. The primary work station restricts movement to an inside area of approximately three feet wide and four feet long. The mental stress is more demanding than physical exertion because of the pressures presented by persons providing numerous explanations (many untruthful) as to why they should have access to and be authorized to park in a particular area or lot. Frustration from those denied access often results in anger and verbal attacks on the incumbent. Work also requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending and similar activities and occasional lifting and carrying of heavy objects of 50 pounds or less. Call back and emergency overtime may be required.
