About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
You will be assigned to the Simon Center for the Professional Military Ethic (SCPME) and will provide guidance and operational oversight for the design and implementation of character development efforts across the U.S. Military Academy (USMA).
Provide expertise for teaching and mentoring, developing faculty to facilitate character discussions, and developing leaders of character within a culture of character growth.
Ensure character integration occurs as intended and provide a direct link between the USMA's overall character development strategy and departments, directorates, or agencies as directed by the SCPME Director.
You will meet regularly with the assigned line of effort leadership within SCPME to align character efforts across the USMA.
You will help steward the prevention of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and discrimination.
Serve as an advisor to help coordinate and govern character development initiatives to ensure their combined effect achieves the desired outcomes for all cadets.
Teach courses and produce scholarship related to character development, ethical leadership, and moral courage as required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Appointment to this position may be subject to a one-year trial period.

This is a full-time Term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 years.Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (Ph.D. preferred) in Psychology, Philosophy, Ethics, Organizational Studies, Adult Education, History, Sociology or a closely related field preferred; 2) Ability to teach in-person at the college level with experience in curriculum development, assessment, and integration across interdisciplinary programs; 3) Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with leaders in an organization, building effective relationships, conducting workshops, committees, and conferences designed to promote the intellectual, social, and physical welfare of students; and 4) Scholarship and stewardship responsibilities of profession.
