Custodial Workers are located in a Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) store and is responsible for performing a variety of custodial duties within the store.

Duties

Maintains an orderly and clean specified area following general instructions regarding the tasks to be performed. Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors using heavy industrial powered equipment. Remove stains from a variety of surfaces such as rugs, drapes, walls, floors, and fixtures by use of chemicals and cleaning solutions. Washes and cleans windows inside and outside of building. Perform seasonal tasks such as the following: cuts grass, pulls weeds, and trims bushes. Picks up litter from immediate area outside of the building. Remove ice and snow from sidewalks, entrance ways, and other public pedestrian areas in and around the commissary. Assist in special preparations for displays, customer appreciation sales, holiday sales, or other promotion activities in the commissary. Requirements

Qualifications

You must meet qualifications and requirements by the closing date. Per the OPM Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, how you gained the skill and/or knowledge or the length of time you have spent in this line of work is not as important as what you can do and that you have the required ability or potential to successfully perform the duties of this position. Your resume should show your specific knowledge, skill, and abilities for this position in relation to each of the elements being measured. Examples of qualifying experience: Working as a janitor in a retail, office, or warehouse environment. Uses machines (floor scrubber, power washers, and floor buffers) along with other tools (e.g. buckets, mops, cleaning aging solutions, squeegees) to do the job. You will receive credit for all relevant qualifying experience (paid and unpaid), including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Physical requirements: Ability to lift and move objects weighing 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing over 50 pounds. You will attest to your ability to perform these physical requirements in the Questionnaire. This job has one critical element, called the screen-out element (SOE). The SOE addresses the critical knowledge, skill, and abilities essential to satisfactory job performance. The certification must be on letterhead signed by the adjutant, personnel officer, unit commander or higher headquarters and include your rank, dates of active duty service, type of discharge, character of service, and, if applicable, the date your terminal leave begins. This document is sometimes called a Statement of Service. Notes for veterans:1. Active duty military members who are selected may not be appointed to a position unless on terminal leave or already separated.2. You are required to provide your final DD214 upon issuance, if it was not part of your application package.3. Within the DoD, appointment of retired military members to a civilian position within 180 days immediately after retirement is subject to the provisions of 5 U.S.C. 3326. Applicants claiming Military Spouse Preference must submit the completed Military Spouse PPP Self-Certification Checklist, proof of marriage to the military service member (e.g., marriage certificate, marriage license), and a copy of the military member's PCS orders.
