This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is a TERM position NTE five Years. It is time-limited and may be extended up to eight years. Incumbent serves as a non-supervisory employee engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of complete electrical systems, including fixtures, controls, and equipment.
Duties
Responsible for all the electrical work, both on land and the floating plant, which includes diagnosis, maintenance, repairs, testing, layout installation, etc. of the electrical system and incoming power lines.
Installs new electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment to include secondary distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, phase, and frequency to the offices, warehouses, and trade shops.
Plans and lays out the routine, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, and continuity of proposed systems. Incumbent is required to trace-out the different circuits from schematic drawings as related to the electrical systems.
Locates and diagnoses trouble in electrical systems, instruments, apparatus, and equipment such as welding machines, overhead cranes, lathes, floating crane motors, and diesel generators.
Interprets complicated job sketches, schematic wiring diagrams, construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Maintains in efficient working order all electrical machines, transformers, switchgear, distribution systems, lighting in buildings and offices, motor boats, tenders, dredge, etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment and annual physical examination to ensure required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test screening and random drug and alcohol test screenings thereafter.
- Journeyman Electrician License is required. (MUST ATTACH)
- Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. State driver's license.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician without more than normal supervision. Repair of electrical equipment; select tools and materials; load, test and adjust systems, circuits, equipment and controls to insure proper and safe operation. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs work from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, etc. in high or hard to reach areas. Continual standing, stooping, bending, climbing, and working in uncomfortable or tight positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, parts, or equipment that weighs up to 20 pounds and occasionally may lift items weighing more than 20 Pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed outside and inside in all types of weather. Work is also performed over and near water where danger of drowning exists. Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, and grease from machinery and equipment. Possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, burns, cuts and bruises. Incumbent is responsible for complying with safety procedures and regulations applicable to this position in accordance with existing safety policies.
