The incumbent serves as a technical advisor in ecology for one or more parks to apply a systems approach to the study and analysis of organisms and ecological relationships. The ecologist is responsible for program development and implementation.
Duties
Serves as the aquatic resources specialist for Assateague Island National Seashore.
Coordinates the park's long-term water quality monitoring programs that includes marine, estuarine, and fresh ground water resources.
Performs data collection, analyses, interpretation and reporting of results.
Plans, conducts, and coordinates research and resoration projects pertaining to water quality and aquatic resource issues relevant to the park.
Summarizes and interprets results of scientific studies and serves as a technical representative on various committees.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. SELECTIVE FACTOR: MOCC: Applicant must possess or be able to obtain a current Motorboat Operator Certification Course (MOCC) or Motorboat Operator Instructor Certification Course (MOICC) or equivalent at date of application.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
A. Have a bachelor's degree or above in biology. (You must provide transcripts with your application.)

B. Have a bachelor's degree in a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences. (You must provide transcripts with your application.)

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: Have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as, but not limited to: (1) Implementing aquatic resource protection, mitigation, and restoration projects, (2) implementing scientific monitoring protocols for aquatic resources, (3) using Geographic Information Systems to analyze aquatic resource spatial data, (4) managing and analyzing complex ecological data sets, and /or (5) reporting and communicating scientific information. EDUCATION: Have successfully completed at least three full years of graduate education or a PhD. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a field directly related to this position. One year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of fill-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition on one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) is considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study. You must include transcripts.

COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of graduate education semester credits and divide by 54. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.

Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
