This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Medical/Surgical Unit/3West at Gallup Indian Medical Center Gallup, NM. This position is responsible for supervision, managing, directing, coordinating, leadership and evaluating the provision of nursing care provided on Medical/Surgical Unit/3West. Reports to Supervisory Nurse/Assistant Chief Nurse Executive-Inpatient.

Duties

NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.** Functions as the Supervisory Nurse with 24-hours responsibility for nursing services and nursing care on Medical/Surgical Unit/3West. Plans the work for the unit, adjusting work schedules as needed to meet the staffing and patient care needs. Implements personnel management procedures, training and career development plans, grievance procedures, safety practices as well as specific orientation and training of each employees. Recommends, initiate various personnel actions, performance awards, and disciplinary actions for employee at level of authority and works collaboratively with other Nursing leaders to meet Division of Nursing, hospital and Federal initiates and goals. Perform the full range of patient care duties. Closely observes patients for conditions that may require emergency measures; recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious clinical situations, initiates and provides appropriate immediate/emergency measures. Sets up, operates and monitors specialized equipment. Participates with the hospital performance improvement coordinator to assure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and other applicable accreditation standards. Applies and implements EEO program and guidelines.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Administering, coordinating, and directing clinical nursing activities; providing supervision of an inpatient nursing unit, developing work schedules and work assignments to be accomplished by subordinates; managing employee performance, identifying the need for unit specific policies that guide medical nursing practice, and monitoring health care services to ensure quality care in accordance with medical and nursing guidelines and accreditation requirements.
