About the Position: Position is located with the St. Paul District. Assigned to a 20" cutter head pipeline Dredge Goetz, providing repair maintenance and general servicing of floating plant equipment. The official duty station is the Dredge Goetz, wherever it is located.

Duties

Assists with the removal and disassembling of engines, install all new parts, adjusts valve and fuel timing to proper specifications in order to restore engines to proper operation. Assists with disassembling and repairs marine transmission and reduction gears, replaces, repairs, and adjusts transmission controls. Performs all maintenance on bulldozers, winches, and cranes. Replaces tracks, rollers, upper and front rollers, track tighteners, and final drives. Replaces winch cables, hydraulic hoses, brake and clutch linings. Makes necessary adjustments to return equipment to a good and proper operating condition. Maintains, or assists in maintaining, electrical systems 6, 12, 24, and 32 volts. Removes starters, alternators, batteries, and voltage regulators. Installs replacement components and restores unit to normal operation. May be called upon to assist the chief Electrician when needed.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-employment and/or annual physical examinations as required. Applicants must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
  • This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
  • May be subject to rotating shift work.
  • This is a Mission Essential position and is not subject to dismissal in emergencies based on inclement weather conditions, or other emergency situations, as appropriate.
  • Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally carry objects weighing 45pounds and over for considerable distances.
  • This is a seasonal position.
  • May be subject to a one year probationary period.
  • Overnight travel up to 75%.

Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time. Some work involves ascending and descending narrow vertical ladders or stagings often while carrying tools and equipment. Working Conditions: Usually performs work inside and outside exposing to the prevailing weather conditions, noise, and intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces. Frequently, work is performed in cramped areas. Subject to dirt, grease, noise, fumes, injury from dropping parts and tools, slipping from working position, eye, hand, and back injuries, and drowning. Wearing protective equipment required.
