About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. Duties

Ensure hazardous materials are properly stored when not in use. Make determinations on proper preparation for shipping hazardous wastes. Initiate corrective action in case of improper stored materials. Make on the spot decisions that affect the safety of the installation as a whole. Determine composition of each hazardous material/hazardous waste with generating customers. Evaluate hazardous containers to determine proper identification for transportation. Operate motor vehicle up to 5 tons to transport materials according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a Personnel Background Investigation (NACI).
  • Obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and maintain annual requirements thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift operator’s license.
  • Must possess a valid state commercial driver's license with hazmat endorsement. (Must upload a copy of the front and back of the license.)
  • You may be expected to travel (TDY) in this position up to 10% of the time for business purposes.
  • Must be able to lift up 50lbs.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and random testing thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Management certificate, Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification.
  • Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years and can be made permanent without further competition.
  • Time Limited Detail NTE may be made or extended at management discretion.

Ability to perform the common Lead Hazardous Waste Disposer (MVO/FLO) duties which includes interpreting guides such as plans and blueprints, demonstrating proper work methods, and providing information to supervisor on progress of work. I can determine proper identification of materials, correct incorrect labels, and store materials in accordance with regulations. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Ability To Lead or SuperviseDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT-Position requires frequent standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, and working in uncomfortable positions. Physical handling of HW/HM will be routine. May be required to lift or carry items that weigh up to 50 pounds, shifting/relocating heavier items using material handling equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS- Work is performed inside and outside and exposes incumbent to weather extremes. There is exposure to noise, vibrations, and jolting from operated machinery. Incumbent is exposed to possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises. There is the possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaking containers and may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.). Work is dirty, dusty, and greasy.
