About the Position: This position is located in the Facilities Management Department, Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
This position is for 2nd shift and there will be Night Shift Differential Pay.
Duties
Perform tests of equipment and chemicals using various testing equipment.
Calibrate air flow systems for optimum performance.
Maintain air conditioning and refrigeration equipment with compliance to established regulations.
Assemble air conditioning and refrigeration system parts such as compressors, motors, condensers and humidifiers to ensure complete systems.
Provide service including installing, maintaining, repairing, modifying, and rebuilding various special purpose HVAC systems for non-critical and critical areas across the hospital campus.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- A State Driver's license is required.
- A State Board of Refrigeration Examiners Universal Certification is required.
- A Respiratory protection qualification and certification is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision.
I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex duties to service a variety of air conditioning, heating, ventilation and refrigeration equipment. I am skilled in installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting residential and commercial air conditioning and heating equipment including compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, heaters, and/or valves; I am able to perform tests on mechanical, electric, electronic, hydronic and pneumatic controls; I can calibrate and balance air and water flow systems; I can perform tests on residential and commercial refrigerant systems; I have strong knowledge of regulations and requirements for HVAC systems. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Heaviest weights lifted are approximately 50 lbs. Hand truck or dollies are available for moving heavier items. This job requires stooping, bending, standing, stretching, crouching, and working in close places. Occasionally works from ladders or scaffolds.
Working Conditions: Most of the work is inside in well lighted and ventilated areas. Work is performed inside and outside and is usually dirty, dusty, noisy, and greasy. Outside work is sometimes performed in bad weather. Incumbent may be exposed to fumes, noise, and unpleasant odors with the possibility of cuts or abrasions.
