You will serve as a DATA SCIENTIST in the Military Sealift Command (MSC), Directorate Ship Management (DSM),
under the Resource Manager One (RM1) Division of MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND.
Duties
You will serve as a Data Scientist using expert knowledge in the application of mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific principles, methods, and techniques.
You will analyze the DSM business model, policies and procedures to ensure efficient and economical use of Program sponsor resources.
You will build statistical models to project the programmatic resources necessary to meet mission requirements and support future programmatic funding requests during the Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution (PPBE) process.
You will leverage and synthesize large volumes and variety of ship maintenance and operational data are undertaken to extract information and transform raw data into program models and actionable business intelligence.
You will identify potential projects and initiatives that can reduce cost, increase customer satisfaction, improve the quality, and timeliness of services in support of the mission.
You will serve as either team leader or team member, working across disciplinary boundaries to analyze and develop process improvement plans and provide leadership with sound, quantitative basis for decision-making.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience performing a broad range of assignments that contribute to establishing a scientific and technical capability required within the code, Experience working with the Command Data Analysis Center of Excellence on collaborating on policy development and design of necessary data to support DSM's responsibility for material readiness; Experience generating actionable insights applying advanced statistical techniques, for example, predictive statistical models and simulations, segmentation analysis, etc. Experience identifying potential projects and initiatives that can reduce cost, increase customer satisfaction, improve the quality, and timeliness of services in support of the mission; Experience with the planning and executing of complex and systematic data analytics projects and studies in support of the DSM and RM1 mission.

Basic Requirements:
- Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

- Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
