You will serve as a Painter Worker in the Industrial Execution Department, Production Trades Division of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.
This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will apply protective and decorative paint finishes to aircrafts, aircraft components and accessories, and engine components.
You will prepare aircrafts, engines, ground support equipment and components for finish using various chemicals, detergents, and solvents.
You will read and interpret specifications, sketches, blueprints, technical directives, manuals and shop orders to obtain information on surfaces to be coated.
You will use trade related tools and equipment including, but not limited to: paint guns, sanders, air hoses, sealant guns, paint removing abrasives, and masking materials.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain required certification and/or license as a condition of employment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Preparing aircrafts, engines, components, and related equipment for painting and sanding, and then applying decorative and protective paint coatings; 2) Using tools and material that support paint operations, including paint guns, air hoses, paint removing abrasives, and masking materials; 3) Using various primers, chemicals, detergents, solvents and other agents; and 4) Reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, technical directives, manuals and instructions. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
