The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee with on-the-job training and guidance to further student technical development. This position is a developmental position with known promotion potential to the target position of GS-1199-07, 8F9C192. Incumbent works closely with the supervisor in performing duties identified in the full performance standard core personnel document/core document.

Duties

Performs selected tasks and phases of routine studies and projects that require application of basic occupational field theory and principles in the technical area of Acquisition Program Management. Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects. Provides assistance in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives. Performs tasking's which are designed to increase knowledge and skill in the Acquisition Program Management field and related areas.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying accredited institution
  • Must sign a Participant Agreement
  • U.S. citizen or national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island)
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws

  • You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an approved program
  • Pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree (Junior/Senior only), Graduate or Professional Degree
  • Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate)
  • Have a good academic standing (no less than 2.95 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale)
  • Meet the qualification standards of the position
  • Non-citizens may be eligible for employment if Permitted by the DoD Appropriation Act
  • May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties
  • This position is established under the provisions of the Pathways Program
  • The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance as a condition of employment

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the Pathways Internship Program requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for appointments in the Competitive Service Student Trainee Positions. PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity, this position may be filled at the GS-04, GS-05, GS-06, or GS-07 grade level depending on applicant qualifications and organizational requirements. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Seeking a degree with at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following fields: accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, or organization and management. RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIER (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: GS-04, 05 and 06 1. Knowledge of basic principles of the classified titled or related field. 2. Skill in communicating factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing. 3. Ability to learn basic techniques of the classified title. 4. Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions. 5. Ability to plan and organize work, and consult effectively with co-workers. GS-07 1. Knowledge of basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices in the technical area of Acquisition Program Management. 2. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform student trainee assignments. 3. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format. 4. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions. 5. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field. 6. Ability to gather and analyze basic facts, information, and data, and draw conclusions.

To qualify for a GS-04: Completion of 2 academic years of post high school study or an associate's degree in a related field of study

To qualify for a GS-05: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or completion of 4 academic years of pre-professional study.

To qualify for a GS-06: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or completion of 4 academic years of pre-professional study.

To qualify for a GS-07: Completion of 1 academic year of graduate level education, bachelors degree with Superior academic Achievement as provided in the "General Policies and Instructions" for Qualifications Standards Operating Manual (see link below), or 5 academic years of pre-professional study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
