You will serve as a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist in the Ocean and Atmospheric Science & Technology Directorate, Code 703050 of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY CONUS.

Duties

You will plan, develop direct and administer a comprehensive program of facility and marine safety. You will establish safety standards and operating procedures. You will enforce safety analysis and reporting mishaps. You will identify, develop, deliver specialized training for personnel who participate in marine or maritime research operations. You will schedule and conduct formal inspections of laboratory facilities and marine vessels to identify and evaluate workplace hazards.

Requirements

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates: The selective placement factor is: This position requires demonstrated experience as a maritime investigator or marine inspector of commercial vessels and facilities for compliance with federal standards. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05/10 grade level or pay band (NO-02) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate most or all of the following duties: 1.) Planning, developing, directing and administering comprehensive programs; 2.) Establishing safety standards and operating procedures; 3.) Enforcing safety analysis and reporting mishaps; 4.) Providing technical advice to scientist, supervisors, and employees on a variety of safety and occupational health subjects; and 5.) Writing safety promotional material. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or completion of three full years of graduate level education leading to such a degree or LL.M with major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, engineering, and industrial psychology;

OR

Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR
