The Supervisory Dietitian is responsible for the execution of clinical nutrition programming within the facility, community-based clinics, and the local community. They provide administrative management and direction of the Clinical Nutrition Section and ensures proper coordination between the delivery of clinical nutrition services and the overall delivery of health care.

Duties

Will serve as the Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) Supervisory Dietitian which will include .5 FTEE providing direct patient care to Veterans in their homes, and .5 FTEE supervisory duties. Duties will also include supervisory cross coverage across other clinical nutrition sections including inpatient/acute care and ambulatory care. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Serve as a professional and technical advisor to staff and other health care professionals. Represent the Clinical Nutrition Section on projects, committees and/or workgroups within the department and facility. Assume full responsibility for planning, directing, and assessing the work and competence of subordinate staff. Collaborate with other managers in the medical center to negotiate and/or make decisions on NFS related matters affecting clinical operations. Provide Clinical Nutrition Section specific leadership and exercise a full range of supervisory and personnel management authorities and responsibilities Develop procedures and guidelines for clinical operations and monitor compliance with regulatory standards and policies and procedures. Participate in performance improvement efforts within Clinical Nutrition section, acting on quality improvement data and plans. Lead the action planning process to attain goals and resolve deficiencies. Identify and prioritize problems, set long and short-term goals, identify action plans for the clinical section and nutrition programs. Build and implement contingency plans within the section, ensuring continuity of clinical operations in all internal and external emergency situations. Execute the training plan for the clinical section and ensure staff remain up to date on advances and changes in medical nutrition therapy. Orient and train employees related to clinical nutrition and appropriate policies and procedures. Assist with new employee onboarding. Ensure that materials utilized in Veteran education are evidence-based, using current literature and research. Analyze data (i.e., event capture, clinic utilization) to recommend allocation of clinical nutrition resources. Ensure evidence-based guidelines are integrated into clinical practice. Ensure Veteran education materials are written with based on evidence-based guidelines, current literature, practice, and research. Collaborate with the food operations staff, bridging the work of the clinical nutrition staff to the food services provided to Veterans. May perform other related duties as assigned which are appropriate for this grade and assignment. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Registration: Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). (Must provide copy of registration) GRADE DETERMINATION: Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical Nutrition), GS-12 Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of accrediting requirements in clinical nutrition to assess staff compliance and implement performance improvements. (b) Skill as a nutrition expert to provide technical guidance, direction and staff development. (c) Skill in Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines to develop, implement and coordinate best practices. (d) Skill in establishing goals and objectives to coordinate activities, evaluate accomplishments and solve problems. (e) Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance). (f) Ability to analyze data in order to recommend allocation of resources. Assignment. For all supervisory assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity, difficulty, variety and be performed by the incumbent as a major duty at least 25% of the time. The incumbent must spend 25% or more of their time providing administrative and technical supervision over staff at the full performance level or below and may supervise advanced practice and/or program coordinator Dietitian(s). Supervisory Dietitians collaborate closely with the food service section to enhance the Veteran dining experience and support the strategic goals of the food service section. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This work requires light carrying (under 15 pounds), use of fingers, walking (1 hour), standing (6 hours), ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid may be permitted), and mental and emotional stability. Environmental factors include working alone and working closely with others.
