This position will provide clinical, administrative, and procedural assistance to all Cardiology Providers (General Cardiologist, Interventional and Electrophysiology Cardiologists, Cardiology Subspecialty Nurse Practitioners, and Cardiology Fellows) in the Cardiology Procedure areas and Outpatient Cardiology Clinics.
Duties
Aids the General Cardiologist, Invasive Cardiologist, Interventional Cardiologist, Electrophysiology Cardiologist, Cardiology Fellow and Subspecialty Nurse Practitioners in the clinic by aiding during visits and procedures, doing initial assessment and triage on walk-in urgent patients, entering data in the patient chart, preparing patients for procedures, and entering orders within their scope of practice.
Opens, sets up, and prepares clinic rooms. Orders and monitors supply levels by using independent judgement that provides timely and quality care.
Maintains and operates monitoring equipment while also performing Quality Assurance Checks on all equipment verifying the Crash Cart Defibrillator battery compliance and checking expiration dates on all supplies.
Exhibits strong multitasking skills to include handing multiple telephone calls.
Coordinates patient's appointments, subspecialty procedures, tracking no-shows, calling patients with reminders, sending follow-up notifications and reminder letters.
Triages simple clinical symptoms or questions over the phone for patients calling for General Cardiologist, Invasive Cardiologist, Interventional Cardiologist, Electrophysiology Cardiologist, Cardiology Fellow and Subspecialty Nurse Practitioners using independent judgement and knowing when to ask for help from them as needed.
Receives and interprets physician's procedures requests. Independently operates and performs electrocardiogram (EKG) procedures. Identifies arrhythmias and gross abnormalities and can determine when to seek immediate attention.
Completes patient check-out using appropriate ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding.
Analyzes workflow in the clinic to determine problem areas; designs and implements innovative actions to improve coordination and efficiency between various care providers and supportive entities; evaluates the success of the new flow process.
Schedules complex arrhythmia procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and maintains the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory schedule in the electronic scheduling package.
Enters electronic consult requests for the Short Stay Unit and for Anesthesia Services and also coordinates the procedure schedule with Short Stay Unit scheduler and Anesthesia Scheduler, as well as anticoagulation clinic.
Will cross-cover selected duties with the Pacer Medical Instrument Technician to include: aiding in the Remote Device Surveillance Program and walk-in Device monitoring clinic; Enrolls and monitor patients in the National Cardiac Device Surveillance Program Database; Coordinates with patents and the National Cardiac Device Surveillance Program and places orders for cellular adapters along with remote monitoring equipment for remote pacemakers and defibrillator monitoring.
May be asked to perform duties as the Clinical Research Coordinator for the clinical research studies involving patients under Cardiology Services which may include: collecting, recording, managing, and storing research data; obtaining, processing, and shipping of laboratory specimens; and completing the CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) Core Course in Protection of Human Research Subjects.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/19/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: preparing clinic rooms; maintaining and operating medical monitoring equipment (glucose monitor, EKG machine, vital sign machines, etc.); taking and recording diagnostic signs to perform patient evaluations and screenings; scheduling patients for pre-procedure appointments; and assisting licensed personnel with complex, specialized, and potentially-life threatening situations. Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one full year of graduate education.

Physical Requirements: This work requires regular and recurring physical exertion. It may involved walking, frequent bending, reaching and stretching to set up and take apart equipment; and carrying, pushing, or pulling moderately heavy objects. Duties may require above average dexterity.
