This position is responsible for Whole Health Coaching and skill development of the local Medical Center's Whole Health Coach program, including provision of care through coaching and promotion and education regarding Whole Health Coaching to Veterans and staff. The position is integral
to supporting Whole Health Coaches and Veterans in navigating the Whole Health Journey, specifically through the Pathway, wellbeing, and Whole Health clinical care elements of the Whole Health System.
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Assembling a diverse planning team of interdisciplinary health professionals and representatives from various services within the medical center including labor partners.
Working with the committees to develop a charter, goals, and strategic plans for the Whole Health program, and ensures the plans are updated annually per policy.
Conducting needs assessment(s) of patient to determine program needs and interests. Developing core program components based on assessment results.
Developing and delivering classes, seminars, workshops, etc. on various Whole Health topics including but not limited to nutrition, physical activity, and mental health topics or works to identify and collaborates with relevant subject matter experts.
Developing training materials for patient educational needs.
Implementing use of available individual health assessments to determine patient well-being strengths and opportunities (i.e., Personal Health Inventory (PHI), Healthy Living Assessment (HLA)), and tracks patient improvement and goal attainment as appropriate.
Modeling healthy behavior and provides support and encouragement to employees as it relates to behavior change.
Promoting the Whole Health program to all patient on all shifts throughout the medical center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
Writing proposals for annual funding opportunities as made available by the national Whole Health program office.
Maintaining and updating local policies and procedures related to Whole Health.
Managing program budget and is the fund control point official for the Whole Health program.
Responsible for the purchase of a variety of products, materials, and goods used in the promotion and administration of Employee Whole Health activities.
Promoting the model of whole health for Employees, including increasing opportunities to engage in self-care activities
Educates leaders in well-being culture and behaviors which can support a culture of well-being
Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience providing health coaching and facilitating personal health planning to individuals and groups, required.
Experience facilitating group health education classes, required.
Experience employing patient-centered communication skills, including active listening, motivational interviewing, and setting SMART goals, required.
Experience with mindful awareness, desired.
Experience with virtual and information technologies, desired.
Experience working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary care team, desired.
Experience educating colleagues and/or staff on health coaching, personal health planning, and patient-centered communication techniques, desired.
Experience with VHA Whole Health initiative, desired.
Experience working with chronic pain patients, desired.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Tuesday-Friday; 7:00AM-5:30PM, subject to change based on the needs of the agency.
Telework: May be authorized for telework (Ad Hoc).

This position is covered by AFGE bargaining unit. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement .
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATION REQUIREMENTS (IOR) - BASIC REQUIREMENT: You MUST meet the Basic Requirements and the Minimum Qualifications to qualify for this Social Science Program Coordinator position.
BASIC EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Four (4) years of appropriate experience in a position that demonstrates I have the acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. NOTE: Your experience must fully be documented in your resume and must include job title; duties; month & year/end dates AND worked per week.
OR
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or higher, with a major study in behavioral science, social science, or related disciplines appropriate to this position. The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. NOTE: Official/unofficial transcripts must be submitted with your application or your application will not be reviewed. Education cannot be credited without documentation.
OR
COMBINATION OF BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience that included courses equivalent to a major in behavioral or social science or a subject-matter field appropriate to this position, plus appropriate experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a 4-year course of study described above. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform work in this occupation. NOTE: If you qualify by a combination, transcripts are required, and your experience must be detailed in your resume.
In addition to meeting the above requirements, you must also meet one of the following minimum requirements for the grade level that you are applying.
To qualify for this position at the GS-9 level, you must meet one of the following:
Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Social Science Program Coordinator. Qualifying specialized experience includes: reviewing supporting material to determine compliance with regulations and policy requirements; assists in planning and implementing program(s) within a medical center setting; using creativity to engage employees and community partners in a newly developed program; developing training materials for staff educational needs; and experience using a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of program effectiveness.

Education: Successfully completed two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field of the position to be filled. Education at the graduate level must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. OR
Combination: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience as described above, to meet the total experience requirements. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do to the work of this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. Experience must be clearly indicated in your resume.
: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical requirements: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk, although the position requires
the ability to move from one geographic location of the facility to another. Some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending or prolonged sitting may be required. The work places no special physical demands on the employee. Work is performed in an office setting with occasional visits to areas within the service as well as throughout the Medical Center. Work area is adequately lighted, heated and air conditioned. The normal risks and discomforts typical of an office and clerical work area are included. There are no unusual risks or safety hazards associated with this position.
