This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) Stockton. The position, generally aligned under to the Housekeeping Supervisor, is responsible for supporting and performing tasks (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the Environmental Management Services (EMS) goals and objectives. The position has no formal disciplinary authority over staff in the execution of daily tasks.
Duties
The Housekeeping Aid Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing the duties of Housekeeping Aids in the performance of housekeeping related services in the various areas of the medical center.
Major duties and responsibilities will include:
Assisting with the delegation of duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis;
Coordinating work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities;
Cleaning all patient areas and corridor spaces throughout the medical center, operating rooms, and all other areas as assigned;
Planning and scheduling daily and weekly assignments, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities;
Determining the equipment and cleaning materials needed for each job;
Training staff to ensure the use of patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, family members, and personnel;
Providing on-the job training for co-workers and new employees;
Keepings subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies;
Ensuring all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues;
Inspecting assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner;
Performing related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday to include Holidays 8:00am to 16:30pm

The Housekeeping Aid Leader engages with all employees to provide purpose, direction and motivation in accomplishing all tasks, while training the employee in proper procedures and techniques to meet or exceed desired outcomes of workload and safety. This position sets the pace of each task, demonstrates methods and techniques and provides direction to assigned employees in their proper usage is cleaning supplies and equipment.
This position reports progress of employees to the Supervisor and makes recommendations as necessary, on all matters to include the progress of work, any infractions of policies and procedures, and assures all safety compliance. Provides on-the-job training to all employees assigned. Identifies and recommends to the Supervisor employees that need remedial training based on observations made in the work site.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
