Duties

Schedules, tracks, bills, reconciles, and controls the repair and rebuild of Industrial Plant Equipment (IPE) containing a variety of components or subassemblies. Participates with management, Project Manager, Planner/Estimator, and Quality Assurance Specialist in the initial inspection of IPE to determine feasibility of repair/rebuild. Computes cost based on historical data, catalogs, specifications, prints and data governing fabrication or repair/rebuild operations. Assigns workload for machines considering such factors as size, complexity, current workload, facilities and workers’ skills. Prepares a variety of reports on money spent, man hours, completion dates, parts status, and timelines to provide status, justification, and solutions on any problems which occurred.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Production Controller (Mechanical), your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify for the GS-07 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-06 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. To qualify for the GS-08 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. To qualify for the GS-09 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-08 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: GS-07: Monitoring jobs in process to inquire into delays and determine causes ensure materials are on hand to sustain scheduled production. Collecting and compiling information from production control records and preparing feeder data for a variety of periodic reports reflecting production data and status of materials and equipment. Scheduling work orders taking into consideration information provided by Supervisors and work crews which could affect the schedule, such as: work load of crews, outstanding or backlog of work uncompleted, availability of materials and machinery, weather conditions, emergency repairs, designated outage periods, and other precedent or priority situations. GS-08; Budgeting, scheduling, progress reporting and cost control for production operations Analyzing man-hours usage, reimbursable costs incurred, parts shortages, and other production data Resolving production scheduling problems GS-09: Utilizing a practical knowledge of the industrial activity, its staff and support operations, the purpose and capacities of the machines and equipment, the type and kind of labor required, a variety of material resources and their cost, to plan for and control the production cycle. Interpreting and adapting policies, guides, procedures, regulations, and precedents to new or different products and production operations. Observing and analyzing production operations to determine if schedules are being followed, if they can be improved, and to determine the causes of production delays. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for these grade levels.
