This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS). Mather AFB. The position, generally aligned under to the Housekeeping Supervisor, is responsible for supporting and performing tasks (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the Environmental Management Services (EMS) goals and objectives. The position has no formal disciplinary authority over staff in the execution of daily tasks.

Duties

The Housekeeping Aid Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing the duties of Housekeeping Aids in the performance of housekeeping related services in the various areas of the medical center. Major duties and responsibilities will include: Assisting with the delegation of duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis; Coordinating work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities; Cleaning all patient areas and corridor spaces throughout the medical center, operating rooms, and all other areas as assigned; Planning and scheduling daily and weekly assignments, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities; Determining the equipment and cleaning materials needed for each job; Training staff to ensure the use of patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, family members, and personnel; Providing on-the job training for co-workers and new employees; Keepings subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; Ensuring all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues; Inspecting assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner; Performing related duties as required. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/16/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. The Housekeeping Aid Leader engages with all employees to provide purpose, direction and motivation in accomplishing all tasks, while training the employee in proper procedures and techniques to meet or exceed desired outcomes of workload and safety. This position reports progress of employees to the Supervisor and makes recommendations as necessary, on all matters to include the progress of work, any infractions of policies and procedures, and assures all safety compliance. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Related experience includes: acting as a lead while performing housekeeping duties in a commercial environment; determining the equipment and cleaning materials needed for each housekeeping job; providing training on procedures and safety requirements to new employees or co-workers; performing inspections to ensure housekeeping duties/projects are completed sufficiently and efficiently. Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. This is a screen-out element. Failure to meet a minimum level will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work performed requires walking, standing, stooping, stretching, and lifting. Physical effort is required when performing housekeeping duties, operating equipment, during training sessions, or in emergency situations. Work is performed in all areas of the medical center.
