This position is located in the Facility Maintenance Division within the Rocky Mountain National Park Trails Program in Estes Park, Colorado.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately April to October, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year (approximately November 1 to March 31).
Duties
The purpose of this Tree Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) position is to perform safe mitigation, monitoring, and inventory of hazard trees, while providing for public safety, protection of property and preservation of the natural and cultural resources within Rocky Mountain National Park.
Assists in the parkwide removal of hazard trees and down tree mitigations using chainsaws, machinery, equipment and rigging equipment. As part of this position, it will be expected that the incumbent leads and trains others in the felling and removal of trees.
Assists Tree Worker Leader (MVO) in the development and implementation of daily, weekly, and annual work plan for the work group.
Perform weekly tailgate safety meetings, project GARs (Green-Amber-Red Risk Assessments) and lead safety discussions related to daily operations and tree removal projects.
Uses both computer and Geographic Information System (GIS) software to document work and create an annual work plan for hazard tree operations. Works with supervisor and Tree Worker Leader (MVO) to plan and coordinate all work plan objectives.
Communicates effectively and professionally with all park staff and stakeholders for daily operations.
Maintains and operates a variety of equipment ranging from chainsaws to dump trailers and chippers. Will assist in the maintenance and maintenance tracking for chainsaws, vehicles, machinery, and trailers within work group's fleet.
