Duties

Assists in planning and conducting a variety of recreation activities for eligible patrons in accordance with established and MAJCOM policies and objectives. Coordinates with existing off-base agencies to develop recreational activities. Ensures safety orientation and standard operating procedures are provided to participants and volunteers are trained regarding rules, regulations and requirements for specified activities. Issues, receives, inspects, cleans, repairs and/or replaces recreation checkout equipment, briefs users on equipment functions and limitations. Maintains recreation records and files. Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of the cardio/weight rooms, gymnasium, racquetball court and towels. Maintains Fitness Center resale operation and ITT program.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, and Technical Medical Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-4, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes providing support and assistance to management in fitness centers by administering fitness and sports programs and special events/programs. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your official transcripts OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Applicant has less than the full amount of specialized experience described above; however, applicant has completed in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree which is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements as described above. Therefore, the applicant has a combination of experience as described above and education as described above. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a variety of recreation activities, programs and equipment. Ability to properly apply the principals, concepts and techniques of recreation to plan and carry out a military recreation to meet the needs of the participating community. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse group of individuals. Knowledge of specific federal, state and local safety program requirements which cover a variety of recreation Activities, eg., boating, canoeing, and bicycling. Ability to lead and train others. Ability to gather, compiles and maintain pertinent data. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
