This position serves as a Fire Dispatch Intelligence Coordinator and is responsible for providing intelligence and information coordination within the geographic area.

Duties
Duties listed are at full performance grade GS-11 level.
Computes the Geographic Area Preparedness Levels and recommends planning level to the Center Manager.
Is responsible for identifying shortages of critical resources and provides information for determining allocation and priority setting for these critical resources relating to personnel, aircraft, crews, equipment, and supplies.
Interprets indices, fuel conditions, current and forecasted weather patterns, and historical fire occurrence levels; provides fire behavior predictions for fire managers, agency administrators, fire information personnel, and incident commanders.
Creates, utilizes, and maintains various computer programs/files in agency specific computer systems such as National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS), FAMWEB, and provides appropriate information and assistance to users in the Geographical Area.
Prepares and conducts written and verbal briefings for agency administrators, fire management staffs, multi-agency coordination groups, and political representatives as well as media, and other specific interest groups.
Acts as Operations Coordinator or may serve as the Center Manager when needed.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

- Minimum of 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required.
- Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).
- Some Fire positions may have Conditions of Employment such as: a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL); pre-appointment and random drug testing; or a physical or medical examination.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-10 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-09)
OR
a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M.,(coursework must be directly related to the position being filled such as forestry, range management, agriculture)
OR
an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester/54 quarter hours leading to a Ph.D.). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Examples of specialized experience are: Assisting in interpreting of fire indices, weather and occurrence patterns and incident history data. Disseminating reports to cooperating agencies and maintained continual provision of intelligence through verbal and written communications. Assisting in identifying shortages of critical resources and provided information for determining allocation and priority setting for these critical resources relating to personnel, aircraft, crews, equipment and supplies. Using fire communication and computer systems.

Examples of specialized experience are: Identifying, analyzing, and solving a wide variety of complex operational fire management program problems, such as establishing and maintaining area incident history data; interpreting fire indices, weather, and occurrence patterns. Preparing and conducting written and verbal briefings for agency administrators, fire management staff, multi-agency coordination groups, and political representatives as well as media, and other specific interest groups. Tracking and monitoring commitment and availability of resources, instituting and maintaining a system to status and prioritize incidents and resource allocation. Using fire computer programs such as National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS), FAMWEB, Weather Information Management System (WIMS), and Interagency Resource Ordering Capability (IROC) or equivalent.
Selective Placement Factors: A minimum 90 days experience performing on-the-line (Primary/Rigorous) wildland fire suppression duties as a member of an organized fire suppression crew or comparable unit that utilized knowledge of wildland fire suppression, containment or control techniques and practices under various conditions. This experience must be documented with specific dates in the online application or resume.
