About the Position: Performs munitions operations duties covering all major work stations in the total work cycle, applying well rounded journeyman through craftsman knowledge's and skills relating to a variety of munitions support operations.

Duties

Loads, repacks, unloads, stacks, palletizes, issues, bands, inspects, reconfigures, counts, documents, and stores ammunition and explosive material into storage areas, IAW SOPs, TMs, DOD regulations, drawings, and safety standards. Performs warehousing and re-warehousing of ammunition and explosive material. Processes, handles, and stores materials and equipment, logs, receipt, storage, and shipment data; and uses manual or mechanized equipment to move, stack, bin, and position materials and equipment. Ensures customer is advised of discrepancies and assists in correcting these. Maintains awareness of shop safety procedures and identifies any observed unsafe practices or procedures. Independently performs a complete range of ammunition issue and turn-in assignments. Routinely determines the nature and degree of the particular hazard involved (e.g., flammability, explosive class, compatibility group). Places appropriate markings, labels, directions, or handling instructions, including hazardous material warnings, on items in accordance with military standards (MIL-STD 129). Independent work requires regular use of forklifts and motor vehicles. Complies with safety rules and procedures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 90 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment medical examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Position is subject to the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain training certification IAW AMCR 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations. *Training must be scheduled within 90 days of assignment.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Transportation of Hazardous Material certification IAW DTR DOD Reg 4500.9-R- Part II, Chapter 204, paragraph D.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B and government Commercial Military Vehicle (CMV) license with special endorsements/certifications for hazardous materials within 90 days of employment.

I am skilled in: (1) Identify the appropriate shipping container and complete shipping documents; select the appropriate cushioning materials and methods needed for packing; (2) Provide written certification on the shipping document that the packaging meets regulatory requirements; (3) Comply with established safety rules and regulations; report material denials and inventory errors; (4) Operate and maintain hand tools, pneumatic nail gun, power saws and drills; (5) Drive designated vehicles in a safe manner; able to control lift and tilt of load; judge turning radius, braking distances, etc. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Close eye and hand coordination and visual depth perception is required when operating power equipment. Frequently lifts and carries explosives and related items that weigh up to 80 pounds and may handle items weighing over 90 pounds. Incumbent may pull/push hand trucks weighing several thousand pounds. Truck driving requires moderate physical effort in the frequent handling of heavier objects while loading cargo with the assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. It requires moderate physical effort in climbing on tractors to load or tie down cargo. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires, and to make limited emergency repairs. Light to moderate physical effort is required to operate hand and foot controls of forklift and truck.
