Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for United States Attorney's Office of Western District of Missouri. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating and scheduling activities of the Grand Jury as well as providing legal support for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF).Typical work assignments will include: Conducting a variety of grand jury administrative duties associated with grand jury operations, i.e., developing orientation materials for new grand jurors, drafting and sending juror summons, monitoring compliance with summons. Assembling all necessary information for presentation of indictments, and obtaining documentation or other records required for presentation of a case to the grand jury. Conducting grand jury logistical support duties, i.e, schedule appearances, coordinating returns of indictments with the Court Clerk, and coordinating with Victim Witness staff regarding appearances of victims and witnesses. Responding to victim and witness inquiries via phone, e-mail, letters and fax, providing initial screening of victim concerns, and determining program eligibility for victim-witness services. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the experience requirements as described below: GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal or in private sector. Specialized Experience in performing the following types of duties: providing information and assistance relating to grand jury investigations/matters scheduled for grand jury, and legal and administrative procedures to be followed; examining, preparing and processing a variety of technical legal documents; preparing legal actions such as indictments, criminal complaints, search warrants, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, and grand jury subpoenas. GS-08: To be eligible at the GS-08 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal or in private sector. Specialized Experience: Examples of specialized experience include maintaining files, logs, complaints, transcripts, reports and other confidential records of grand jury proceedings; scheduling the appearances of and responding to inquiries from attorneys, victims and law enforcement officers; recommending and implementing internal procedures relating to assistance functions concerning grand jury activities and providing technical advice to staff regarding procedures and processing requirements of grand jury activities and cases. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
